Is Flower Mound Right for You?

March 14, 2022

Flower Mound, named the No. 4 Best Place to Live in the U.S. in 2021 by Money magazine, has been welcoming new families for more 150 years. According to legend, the town gets its name from a hill covered by an unusually large number of wildflowers. The 175 identified species of flowers, grasses and other plant life on the mound attracts tourists from around the world, but it’s “Flo-Mo’s” small town vibe, friendly residents and central location that has people flocking to buy homes here.

The town is located approximately 28 miles northwest of downtown Dallas and 33 miles northeast of downtown Fort Worth making it attractive to commuters. That may be why Flower Mound saw the highest job growth of any city on Money’s list and comes in second for the highest projected job growth over the next five years.

More than a few master-planned communities have sprung up over the years boasting beautiful homes, resort-style amenities and acres of open spaces. Canyon Falls is a well-known community overlooking the Graham Branch Creek Nature Preserve. The community features a state-of-the art amenity complex with resort-style pool, splash pad and fitness center. The historic Hay Barn is where residents hang out to watch their pups play at the dog park. Catch-and-release-fishing, a second pool, event lawns and a lifestyle director keep residents busy.

Trailwood — located along Interstate 35W — leads to the attractions of Denton and Fort Worth. The picturesque community provides residents with striking views and Texas Hill Country vibes. Trails, greenbelt homesites, parks and 45 acres of preserved natural habitat satisfy residents’ desire to enjoy the great outdoors. An amenity center with a resort-style pool and fitness center brings neighbors together.

Both Trailwood and Canyon Falls are zoned to Argyle ISD. The top-performing district was ranked No. 8 on a list of the Best School Districts in Texas compiled in 2021 by Niche. Argyle High School has won the prestigious UIL Lone Star Cup 11 times.

The largest district serving Flower Mound is Lewisville LISD. District schools have won multiple awards in athletic, arts and academic competitions. Last year 1,078 students across the district earned the AP Scholars designation for their exemplary achievement on AP exams during the 2020-2021 school year.

Northwest ISD serves more than 27,000 students across three counties. It was ranked among the top 20 best school districts in the Dallas-Fort Worth area by Niche. The district was one of five named a finalist in the 2020 H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards.

Beyond school and work, Flower Mound offers a plethora of recreational opportunities at nearby Grapevine Lake and Rockledge Park — both excellent spots for hiking-and-biking, boating and fishing.

Festivals are a large part of life with the biggest event of the year happening on the Fourth of July. The Flower Mound Independence Fest attracts an estimated 30,000 people each year with live music, a children’s parade and spectacular fireworks display. The multi-day Highland Village Balloon Festival features hot-air balloons, live music, arts and crafts, food and more.

Fun can also be found downtown at Corky’s Gaming Bistro, Moviehouse Eatery, CAC Waterpark and Red Door Escape Room. Favorite restaurants include Prime Farm to Table, Starwood Café and Luna Grill. Fashionistas can get their fix at The Highlands of Flower Mound and Robertson’s Creek.
