Below are answers to some of the most common questions about building a custom home on your land.

What Is Build On Your Lot?

Build On Your Lot gives you the flexibility to build a custom home on property you already own or plan to purchase. Instead of selecting a homesite in a subdivision, you can create your dream home on acreage, family land, or a private lot that fits your lifestyle.

Coventry Homes combines more than 35 years of homebuilding experience with personalized service, helping you navigate every stage of the process—from homesite evaluation and home design to construction and move-in day.

Where Do You Build?

Our Build On Your Lot program serves major metropolitan areas across Texas, including:

We also build in many surrounding areas. If you are unsure whether your property is within our service area, our team can help determine whether we can build on your land.

How Do I Get Started?

Whether you already own land or are still searching, the first step is connecting with one of our Build On Your Lot specialists.

We will answer your questions, explain the process, discuss your goals, and help you understand what comes next. Even if you are not planning to build for another year or two, we are happy to help you start planning your future custom home today.

Can You Help Me Find Land?

Yes. While we do not represent buyers in the purchase of land, we can provide guidance throughout your search and work alongside your real estate agent to evaluate potential homesites.

Our goal is to help ensure the property you choose is a good fit for your new home.

How Do I Know If My Land Is Suitable for Building?

Every project begins with a complimentary homesite evaluation.

During this evaluation, we will review important site conditions, including:

  • Soil conditions
  • Grading
  • Utility access
  • Driveway and construction access
  • Other site-specific considerations

Understanding these factors early helps provide a clearer picture of your project and potential site development costs before construction begins. The evaluation is completely free.

Can I Build a Custom Home?

Absolutely. One of the biggest advantages of choosing Coventry Homes as your on your lot builder is the ability to personalize your home.

Start with one of our thoughtfully designed floor plans, then customize structural options, finishes, and design selections to create a home that reflects your lifestyle.

While we do not build from customer-supplied plans, our collection of floor plans offers a variety of customization opportunities. Your Sales Consultant can discuss the available options and additional modifications that may be possible for your project.

How Much Does It Cost to Build a Custom Home on My Land?

Every project is unique. The price of your home depends on several factors, including:

  • Your selected floor plan
  • Homesite conditions
  • Site preparation
  • Location
  • Structural options
  • Interior design selections

Throughout the planning process, you will receive detailed estimates that include your home design, anticipated site development costs, and selected upgrades. This gives you a transparent understanding of your investment before construction begins.

Will My Price Change After Construction Starts?

In most cases, no. As a fixed-price builder, Coventry Homes establishes your home's price before construction begins based on your finalized floor plan, homesite evaluation, and selected options.

The only exception would be unforeseen site conditions, such as unexpected underground obstacles or other site-related issues that require additional work. If that happens, we will review the situation with you, explain any associated costs, and obtain your approval before moving forward.

Is It More Expensive to Build on Your Land?

The cost depends on the condition and location of the homesite.

Building on private property can involve additional expenses compared to building in a planned community because each homesite is different. Grading, utilities, soil testing, permitting, engineering, access, and other site preparation may be required before construction begins.

However, many homeowners find that the ability to build on their land and create a home in a location they love makes the investment worthwhile.

What Financing Options Are Available?

Many homeowners finance their custom home with a construction-to-permanent loan, while others choose to pay cash.

Our preferred lending partners can help you explore financing options and determine which solution may work best for your situation.

If you already own your property, you may also be able to use your land as equity, subject to lender approval.

How Long Does It Take to Build?

Most Build On Your Lot homes take approximately 6–12 months to complete once construction begins.

Your timeline will depend on factors such as:

  • Home design
  • Level of customization
  • Homesite conditions
  • Weather
  • Permitting
  • Other project-specific considerations

Your Sales Consultant will provide an estimated timeline for your specific project and keep you informed throughout the construction process.

Who Handles Permits?

Coventry Homes coordinates the required permits and inspections for your project.

Our team works with the appropriate local authorities and assists with homeowners association and Architectural Control Committee approvals when required, helping ensure your custom home is built in accordance with applicable requirements.

Does My Home Include a Warranty?

Yes. Every Coventry Build On Your Lot home is backed by applicable limited warranties covering items such as finishes, mechanical systems, and structural components, providing added confidence and peace of mind after move-in.

Why Choose Coventry Homes as Your On Your Lot Builder?

Choosing the right on your lot builder is just as important as selecting the right floor plan.

How Do You Ensure Quality?
