Why Coventry

Eco Smart Homes in San Antonio

The construction of energy efficient new homes in San Antonio is only the first step for Coventry Homes. Our building program is taken to the next level by meeting the strict mandates set by the Environments for Living® (EFL) Program.

This means that when you buy a new home from Coventry Homes, not only do you benefit from the highest levels of energy efficiency, but at the same time, you also leave a smaller impact on the environment.

Energy Savings

Each Coventry home is Environments for Living® (EFL) certified. On an average, homes built by Coventry are over 50% more efficient as compared to homes build earlier than 2000, and 10% beyond the International Energy Conservation Code required by the State of Texas. Following are the energy-saving building standards employed by Coventry Homes:

  • Soffit and roof ridge ventilation keeps your attic well ventilated, which in turn minimizes humidity and makes the home more comfortable during both summers and winters.
  • Custom HVAC unit and duct sizing that is based on the number of windows, and size of your home.
  • R-38 ceiling insulation in flat locations builds a barrier between indoor and outdoor air temperatures, which therefore provides you with great energy savings in your home.
  • A programmable thermostat to counter rising humidity levels.
  • A high efficiency A/C system, which is quieter as well as energy efficient, as it requires less amount of energy to function.

Indoor Air Quality

Homes built by Coventry are equipped with mechanically controlled air intakes and 4-inch pleated high performance MERV 11 air filters, ensuring optimal air quality and easy breathing! To ensure air quality is not compromised, Coventry performs a thermal bypass inspection on each home that it builds. This also includes a third-party analysis of the areas where air barriers are frequently missed, as well as an insulation inspection to make sure they are properly aligned with the air barriers.

By doing so, it is made sure that the thermal barriers and air barriers are functioning continuous and complete. This, therefore, decreases the amount of air infiltration, increases the durability of your HVAC system, and saves you money.

Water Efficiency

Coventry Homes improves water efficiencies in your home by making use of numerous smart features, with the PEX plumbing system being the most notable. A PEX plumbing system maintains water quality, is more energy efficient and results in reduced maintenance and greater reliability.

Resource Efficiency

Coventry Homes also makes use of engineered lumber during the construction process, whenever it is applicable. Since this engineered product is virtually defect free, unbelievably strong, and not to mention has the capability to withstand huge loads over long time spans. This move in turn adds value to the construction.

This also keeps waste at a minimal, as only a few trees need to be cut to produce engineered lumber. Moreover, to minimize the impact on the environment even further, by-products such as unusable pieces of wood or small chips can also be used in engineered wood products.

Moisture Management

Proper moisture management goes a long way in protecting the health of your family and increasing the durability of your home! That is why Coventry Homes uses a drainage plan to prevent water from penetrating the wall cladding. All the doors and windows are installed with proper flashing to protect your home against moisture and air leaks.

Verification

Coventry Homes are RESNET and EPA certified. Not only this, Coventry also actively participates in the Quality Assurance Program by RESNET, which certifies new homes in San Antonio through the inspection of third-party professionals. Moreover, Coventry also follows the standards of the Environment for Living® Program, and Department of Energy Builders Challenge, so you can rest assured that when you buy from Coventry, you would get a home that will last you for generations!

BUILT for the FAMILY STRUCTURE

Our homes are built to EcoSmart standards and fit a broad spectrum of aesthetic tastes and retain their curb appeal while being more energy efficient, healthier and environmentally responsible. The bottom line is, you benefit from long-term savings, protection from rising energy costs, increased resale value and improved home comfort.

Environments for Living® Certified

Recognized for energy efficiency and environmental sensitivity, each Eco Smart home is Environments for Living® certified with a written 3-year comfort and projected heating and cooling costs guarantee.

Blower Door Test

We also analyze your home for air leaks using a third-party blower door test. Did you know that more than 30% of a home’s heat loss is due to air leakages?

HVAC Unit and Duct Sizing

We look for every opportunity to incorporate energy efficiency into each of our homes because we know it will result in a quality, energy efficient and healthy home. That’s why each home in our Eco Smart Program has its own AC/Heating blueprint based on the number and size of windows, size of home, and other energy efficiency components such as insulation, ventilation and equipment efficiency ratings. Based on all components working together as a system, we properly size the HVAC equipment using the acceptable industry standard Manual J according to the Air Conditioning Contractors of America and EPA standards.

Water Efficiency PEX Plumbing System

A PEX plumbing system maintains water quality, is more energy efficient and results in reduced maintenance and greater reliability.

Programmable Thermostat

We control both the temperature and humidity levels in each home through the use of a programmable thermostat, providing greater energy savings and comfort to homeowners. Being programmable, it allows you the ability to control the temperature according to your desire and schedule.

Superior Insulation

R-13 wall and R-38 ceiling insulation in flat areas inspected for the best installation

High Efficiency A/C System

The A/C system has a higher Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) so it’s more efficient and requires less energy to run.

Air Infiltration

To ensure a healthier indoor environment, we seal all plumbing, electrical and other penetrations of walls and floors as well as joints between building material with polyurethane caulk to reduce air infiltration.

Other indoor air quality features include:

  • Whole home mechanical ventilation: uses less energy while diluting indoor pollutants
  • Carbon monoxide and smoke sensors on each floor and outside of sleeping zones
  • Local exhaust in bathrooms and utility rooms

Third Party Energy Inspections

You not only have our word that your home is energy efficient, but the word of an objective third-party too. Outside inspection firms will conduct an inspection of the building envelope for any penetrations to assure your home meets all energy efficiency and quality standards. Finally, every home receives a third party final inspection to ensure that the critical HERS Index has been met.
