Why Coventry

Eco Smart Homes in San Antonio

Green is our foundation.

The construction of energy efficient new homes in San Antonio is only the first step for Coventry Homes. Our building program is taken to the next level by meeting the strict mandates set by the Environments for Living (EFL) Program.

This means that when you buy a new home from Coventry Homes, not only do you benefit from the highest levels of energy efficiency, but at the same time, you also leave a smaller impact on the environment.

Efficiency Promise

Coventry now builds homes that qualify for the Efficiency Promise Program. According to this program, homeowners will be provided with a two-year limited guarantee on the energy they use to heat and cool the home. If you wish to learn more about this program*, please click Learn more here: www.efficiencypromise.com.

* The energy used to heat and cool the home will not exceed the guaranteed usage listed on the front of the limited guarantee subject to the terms of the limited guarantee. The energy usage is for the heating and cooling portion only of your energy bill and is calculated on the base plan for the floor plan design built. The base plan calculation and guarantee does not include any optional rooms or other modifications listed on the builder’s option addendum, which would alter the base plan size of the home purchased whether added by the builder or purchaser. Since this is a limited guarantee of energy usage and not cost, any reference to dollar amounts is strictly an estimate and actual costs will vary with the cost of energy. Energy Savings

Each Coventry home is Environments for Living (EFL) certified. EFL is an initiative that goes beyond the guarantees provided by the well-known ENERGY STAR® program. On an average, homes built by Coventry are over 50% more efficient as compared to homes build earlier than 2000, and 15% more efficient than homes built according to the standards set by the ENERGY STAR program. Following are the energy-saving building standards employed by Coventry Homes:

  • The attic is kept well-ventilated using rafter vents and baffles. This keeps your home comfortable during summers and guards it against the building up of heated air during the winters.
  • Custom HVAC unit and duct sizing that is based on the number of windows, and size of your home.
  • R-38 ceiling insulation builds a barrier between indoor and outdoor air temperatures, which therefore provides you with great energy savings in your home.
  • A programmable humidistat or thermostat, ideal to counter San Antonio’s rising humidity levels.
  • A 15/16 SEER A/C system, which is quieter as well as energy efficient, as it requires less amount of energy to function.

Indoor Air Quality

Homes built by Coventry are equipped with mechanically controlled air intakes and 4-inch pleated MERV air filters, ensuring optimal air quality and easy breathing! To ensure air quality is not compromised, Coventry performs a thermal bypass inspection on each home that it builds. This also includes a third-party analysis of the areas where air barriers are frequently missed, as well as an insulation inspection to make sure they are properly aligned with the air barriers.

By doing so, it is made sure that the thermal barriers and air barriers are functioning continuous and complete. This, therefore, decreases the amount of air infiltration, increases the durability of your HVAC system, and saves you money.

Water Efficiency

Coventry Homes improves water efficiencies in your home by making use of numerous smart features, with the PEX plumbing system being the most notable. It has a configuration manifold, which provides hot water lines to every outlet. A study states, this allows the water to reach the fixtures twice as fast as non-manifold systems.

Resource Efficiency

Coventry Homes also makes use of engineered lumber during the construction process, whenever it is applicable. Since this engineered product is virtually defect free, unbelievably strong, and not to mention has the capability to withstand huge loads over long time spans. This move in turn adds value to the construction.

However, that is not all! This also keeps waste at a minimal, as only a few trees need to be cut to produce engineered lumber. Moreover, to minimize the impact on the environment even further, by-products such as unusable pieces of wood or small chips can also be used in engineered wood products, after proper recycling of course!

Moisture Management

Proper moisture management goes a long way in protecting the health of your family and increasing the durability of your home! That is why Coventry Homes uses a drainage plan to prevent water from penetrating the wall cladding. Not only this, to protect your home against moisture and air leaks, all the doors and windows are installed with proper flashing.

Verification

Coventry Homes are RESNET and EPA certified. Not only this, Coventry also actively participates in the Quality Assurance Program by RESENT, which certifies new homes in San Antonio through the inspection of third party professionals. Moreover, Coventry also follows the standards of the Environment for Living Program, and Department of Energy Builder’s Challenge, so you can rest assured that when you buy from Coventry, you would get a home that will last you for generations!

Verified and Certified Green Home Building

With the intense competition in the homebuilding industry, several companies promise and claim to be “green,” to gain the attention of homebuyers. In fact, most homebuilding companies believe that it only takes adding a few visible energy features to become “green.” However, we are proud to say that Coventry Homes is the only homebuilder in San Antonio to have achieved the GREEN certification from the Environments for Living (EFL) Program.

One of the most renowned green building certification systems, EFL ensures homes are built with the objective of providing enhanced performance across several metrics, including enhanced indoor environment quality, reduced CO2 emissions, energy savings, proper resource management, as well as water efficiency. This makes each one of our homes environmentally responsible and energy efficient unlike any other homebuilding company out there!

Our Eco Smart homes are cost efficient to operate and maintain, and provide an overall healthier living environment. Moreover, inspections are also carried out to assess performance, all of which results in a cost-efficient, healthier, and cleaner home for you and your beloved family.

Blower Door Test

Air leakages are accountable for over 30% of a home’s heat loss. To avoid this, each of our homes go through a third party “Boiler Door Test”, so that any air leakages can be identified and rectified as soon as possible.

HVAC Unit and Duct Sizing

To achieve a top quality and healthy home, we look for opportunities to incorporate energy efficiency. That is the reason why our homes come equipped with their own heating and cooling systems that are based according to the size of the home, number of windows, and numerous other energy efficiency components like insulation and ventilation. The HVAC equipment is then properly sized according to the EPA and Air Conditioning Contractors of America standards.

Water Efficiency PEX Plumbing System

To ensure optimal water efficiency, our homes are fitted with a PEX plumbing system, as well as numerous other water efficient fixtures. This plumbing system has a configuration manifold, which provides separate hot water lines to each outlet, so that peak efficiency can be maintained during water usage.

15/16 SEER A/C System

Since the A/C sports a high Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER), it requires less energy to run and is a lot more efficient as compared to other systems. As a result, you benefit from a lower carbon footprint, less noise, and lower energy costs.

Air Infiltration

To decrease air infiltration, all joints between building materials, as well as penetrations of floors and walls are sealed using polyurethane caulk.

Third Party Energy Inspections

While we say our homes are energy efficient, third party inspections prove the same. Inspection companies will assess your building thoroughly to ensure it meets all quality and energy efficiency standards.
